The introduction of Mercedes-Benz’s 2012 line of trucks marks the arrival to the market of the brand-new Atron family, successor of the current Traditional Line of average-sized, semi-heavy and heavy trucks. The main feature is the maintenance of the semi-advanced cab for some models, which meets the preference of an expressive part of the customers, making its external design even bolder and more modern, and also adding more comfort and practicality to its cozy interior.
“The “beaked” trucks of our brand have a very strong image in the Brazilian market, enjoying great preference and reliability at the customers. That is due to attributes such as quality, sturdiness, durability, and excellent resale value”, affirmed Joachim Maier, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil’s Sales Vice-President. “With Atron we enhanced and updated the Traditional Line, especially our sales champions, such as the L 1620, which now becomes the Atron 2324”.
According to the executive, the new Atron family also stands out for the advanced BlueTec 5 technology and by the more powerful, economical and ecological engines which meet the PROCONVE P-7. “In other words, we are going to offer much more to our customers, contributing for them to achieve greater productivity and profitability in transportation”, said Joachim Maier.
Next to the Atron 2324 6x2 semi-heavy truck, which replaces the L 1620, the new line includes the Atron 1319 4x2 average-sized truck (successor of the current L 1318), the Atron 2729 6x4 heavy truck (replacing the 2726) and also the Atron 1635 4x2 heavy truck (replacing the LS 1634). See the table of models, engines, powers, TGW, and axle distance at the end of this text.
The Atron 1319 average-sized truck, the Atron 2324 semi-heavy truck and the Atron 1635 heavy truck are the only ones in their segments to have semi-advanced cab, now much more modern and attractive. The Atron 2729, on its turn, maintains the advanced cab of its predecessor, the 2726, with design in line with the new Mercedes-Benz trucks.
Thanks to the diversity of models, the Atron line offers ample options of choice for own-cargo or transportation companies, as well as for independent truck drivers, customers who importantly contribute for the success of the brand’s “beaked” trucks in the country.
The Atron trucks are indicated for average and long road distances and urban load transportation, as well as for off road operations, such as in the home building, mining, wood and sugar cane industries.
Cab provides more modernity with the recognized sturdiness of the brand
In line with the visual identity of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz’s truck line, the Atron family stands out due to its brand new cab, with modern design and with all the recognized strength and sturdiness of this traditional product line.
The central point of the attractive external design of the truck is the thick-bladed frontal grill, with Mercedes-Benz’s star in the center in evidence. The optic set, the bumper and the rear view mirrors perfectly harmonize with the more modern cab line.
The use of polycarbonate in the road Atron trucks expand the resistance of the optical set to adverse conditions, such as impacts, vibrations, humidity, dust and high temperatures.
In the case of the Atron 1635 tractor, the cab-integrated external parasol and the detached side air intakes enhance the feeling of sturdiness of this heavy truck.
Cozy internal atmosphere and greater daily practicality
Following other innovations introduced in the other lines of 2012 Mercedes-Benz trucks, the interior of the cab in the Atron models stands out by the new colors in the coating and seats. That results in a more modern visual aspect and contributes to a cozier atmosphere.
With new panel of instruments, new steering wheel easier to handle, comfortable seats, excellent ergonomics and internal space, the Atron guarantees a lot of comfort and practicality for the daily work of the driver.
For more commodity of the driver, the Atron 1635 comes as standard with automatic pilot, an item available as optional for the 1319 and the 2324. This is a feature specially indicated for long road trips, contributing for more comfortable driving.
For more practicality in the daily operation of the truck, the driver also has engine brake, operated by a lever in the wheel column in the case of the Atron 1635 and by key in the panel in the other models of the line. In the case of the Atron 1635 tractor, the trailer brake lever is ergonomically positioned in the panel.
An important innovation that comes with the Atron line is the ignition key with immobilizer, a system which prevents the vehicle from being unduly operated. This feature offers extra protection against theft and allows greater safety for the driver, vehicle and load.
New panel helps the driver drive more economically
The instrument panel of the Atron, equipped with on board computer and navigation key, has clean design and facilitated night vision by the use of amber lights. Extremely practical and function, it offers better visualization and simplifies the use by the driver. In addition to that, the modern layout highlights data reading and facilitates information interpretation.
Another very important advantage is that the panel brings functions that help the driver operate the vehicle more economically. Such is the case, for instance, of the real time indication of the vehicle's fuel consumption, expressed in km/l and, in the case of Atron 1635, also the Econometer, a variable Green range that indicates the adequate speed for lower consumption in the condition of use.
New engines guarantee strength and excellent performance
In addition to being more economical and ecological, meeting the PROCONVE P-7, the engines that equip the Atron trucks offer strength and excellent performance in cargo transportation. The high average powers guarantee fast accelerations and higher average speeds. The higher torque, on its turn, favors speeding and velocity resumption, dynamizing the distribution and transportation activities.
Another big advantage of the new engines is the bigger intervals of oil change. In road application, for instance, the Atron 2324 will go from 45,000 km to 75,000 km, which reduces operational costs and increases the availability of the truck for work. In other words, more profitability for the client.
The exclusive Top Brake engine brake comes as standard in the Atron trucks, offering more safety, lower fuel consumption and longer durability of the components of the brake system.
The Atron 1319 and 2324, profitable solutions for load in general
As successors of the champions in the preference of the brand’s customer, the Atron 2324 6x2 (6 cylinder engine and third axle as standard) and the Atron 1319 (4-cylinder engine) trucks guarantee reduced operational cost and excellent cost-benefit ratio for general load transporters and for several products, as well as for wholesalers, cereal sellers, and logistics operators.
Among the most usual implements applied to those Atron trucks are open dry cargo body, dry cargo, refrigerated, or isothermal box, among others.
The Atron 1635 tractor allows several applications
The new Atron 1635 4x2 tractor, heavy truck with semi-advanced cab, is an efficient and profitable solution for cargo transportation in average and long road distances.
This model can be used with several 3-axle semi-trailers, either conventional or spaced ones, as dry load or refrigerated box, sider, container carrier, multi-purpose platform, grain truck, fuel tanker, for chemical products or LPG, dump truck and car carrier truck, besides other implements.
Sturdiness and resistance are highlights of the Atron 2729 in severe use
The new Atron 2729 6x4, with advanced cab and new grille in black, is a strong, sturdy and resistant truck for several applications in severe off-road conditions. The dump truck and cement mixer versions meet the needs of the home building and mining industries. The platform configuration, on its turn, is indicated for the sugar cane and wood industries.
This off-road model of the Atron line comes as standard with the new 9-speed Mercedes-Benz G-181 gear box, double H connection system. This configuration guarantees better performance and more comfort and ease of operation.
With power take off in the engine or gearbox, external system of acceleration, asymmetrical suspension and vertical exhaust pipe in the cement mixer version, the Atron 2729 6x4 is a vehicle that comes from the facture apt to its application, preserving the originality of the components and requiring less time for the assembly of the implements.
