Recognized by the excellent cost-benefit ratio they offer to the customers, the Mercedes-Benz’s Axor heavy trucks will make that ratio even more attractive after the launching of the 2012 line. Several innovations will provide even more comfort, economy and performance, confirming Axor’s position as one of the most complete trucks of the country.
“The Axor trucks also stand out in the market because of the reduced operational cost, excellent productivity and availability for road cargo transportation and several off-road applications”, said Joachim Maier, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil’s Sales Vice-President. “With the new line, we are adding more technology and improving even more the already ample package of components of those vehicles. That results in greater profitability for our customers”.
The 2012 Axor line offers fully automated gearbox
One of the main innovations of the 2012 Axor line is the introduction of the totally automated PowerShift gearbox in the road trucks equipped with OM 457 LA engine. Mercedes-Benz is the only maker to offer this advanced component as standard.
The PowerShift is a mechanic gearbox with automated operation without clutch pedal. It can be operated automatically or manually, depending on the preference of the truck driver. The handle is located in a foldable console at the armrest of the driver’s seat.
The advanced PowerShift gearbox makes the coupling quickly and smoothly, significantly enhancing the comfort of the operation for the driver. In addition to that, it contributes to the optimization of fuel consumption and may diminish the driving differences among the drivers of a fleet, bringing the least experienced ones closer to the most ones, thus making the fleet’s fuel consumption average improve significantly.
The availability of the rear axle without reduction in the cubes in the Axor 4x2 models equipped with the OM 457 LA is an important innovation added to the PowerShift gearbox. That innovation brings weight reduction and also collaborates for lower fuel consumption.
For the off-road Axor models with OM 457 LA engine the semi-automated gearbox known as ComfortShift continues available. Through a “joystick” the coupling is electronically selected and the chosen gear is connected as soon as the driver presses the clutch pedal.
New axle distance
The new axle distance of 3.600 mm, offered in the 6x2 and 6x4 road versions, increases the level of comfort without damaging the cargo platform. It also allows the installation of higher volume fuel tanks, which may reach a total of 820 liters, considerably increasing the truck’s autonomy.
Modern look and more comfort on board
The modern and bold cab of the new Axor follows the identity created for all families of 2012 Mercedes-Benz trucks. The greatest visual appeal comes from its new front grill, which thicker blades and the star prominently in the center, and it also involves elements such as the bumper, the new doors in the Axor with OM 926 LA engine, the new parasol in the low-roof cabs and the angular rear view mirrors. In perfect aesthetical harmony, this set provides a more modern, bolder and impressive style to the truck.
Inside the cab, the new more modern and more ergonomic steering wheel calls attention, together with the roof and wall coating in lighter cloth, the new panel colors, the new rubber carpet, the new curtain and bed cloth and the new seat design. Those details stress modernity and well-being in the cozy internal atmosphere, besides enhancing the functionality for the driver.
The air conditioning notably expands the comfort inside the cab, contributing for more commodity and productivity in the daily transportation.
Practical and functional, the new panel of instruments, with navigation key, brings better visualization and simplifies the operation by the driver. The modern layout highlights data reading and facilitates information interpretation.
Another very important advantage is that the new panel brings functions that help the driver operate the vehicle more economically. Such is the case of the real-time fuel consumption, for example, expressed in km/l and of the Econometer, a variable green strip in the revolution counter, which indicated to the driver the best working rotation of the engine for the lowest fuel consumption.
More power and torque and longer periods for oil change
The trucks of the 2012 Axor line continue equipped with the OM 926 LA and OM 457 LA engines, which have already proven to the market their strength, efficiency, durability and reliability.
Starting now, with the introduction of the BlueTec 5 technology in Brazil, the engines of the Axor are characterized by a more efficient combustion, which results in greater fuel economy, excellent acceleration, better resumptions and low emissions, meeting the PROCONVE P-7.
The new engines also offer nearly 3% more power and 2% more torque compared to the previous versions, contributing for better performance and productivity.
Another great advantage ensured by the engines of the 2012 line are the periods for change of oil up to 33% longer, which results in lower operational cost.
Ample package of series items
The trucks of the 2012 Axor line will continue offering one of the most complete packages of standard items of its category. Besides the advanced PowerShift and ComfortShift gearboxes, there are options such as air conditioning, electric windows, centralized locking of doors with remote control, exclusive Top Brake engine brake, disk or drum brakes, ABS brakes, on board computer with vehicle maintenance planning, control of fuel consumption, and failures diagnosis.
Versatility of road and off-road applications
Due to its characteristics of resistance, durability, and low maintenance, the Axor line is especially indicated for the customers who value a sturdy, reliable vehicle that offers advantageous operational cost, whether independent drivers, own load transportation companies or other companies of the same segment.
For road short, average or long distances, the Axor trucks are offered in the 4x2, 6x2 and 6x4 configurations. The customers have at their disposal versions of tractors and platform trucks for several applications, such as logistics operations, fractioned and palletized cargo transportation, industrialized goods, home appliances, furniture, vehicles, beverages, produce, refrigerated cargo, liquid cargo, grains, food and other products.
For off-road operations the Axor line includes tractor, platform truck, as well as dump and pumper truck, and will 6x4 traction. These vehicles are indicated for home building, agribusiness, sugar and alcohol plants, growing companies, wood extraction and mining companies.
