Mercedes-Benz’s Atego’s line average-sized and semi-heavy trucks come to the market in 2012 with big innovations. The first impact is a visual one, with totally new, modern and attractive design of the cab, which stresses the vehicle’s aspect of strength and sturdiness.
Having advanced and exclusive BlueTec5 technology, which meets the PROCONVE P-7 more economically and ecologically, 2012 line Atego trucks also offer more power and torque, guaranteeing high productivity for urban distribution and load transportation in road average and long distances.
“Those innovations further expand the advantages of the Atego line, which stands out in the market due to the flexibility it offers the clients for the choice of the truck that best responds to its transportation demand”, said Joachim Maier, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil’s Sales Vice-President.
Modern cabs
The Atego family has the largest variety of cabs versions to meet the segment of average-sized and semi-heavy trucks with four variations to suit the needs of each customer and application.
The road models of the new Atego line have spoiler in the bumper, with fog lights, which increases the feeling of strength and the truck’s road call, as well as its safety in the trips.
The external rear view mirrors stand out for the wide area of vision and by the large angular mirror for the driver, contributing for easier and safer maneuvers. The external innovations of the cab also include bigger and more modern easy-to-use handles on the doors.
More comfortable, functional and practical interior
Inside the cab, the new Atego line brings innovations that guarantee excellent ergonomics, allowing great commodity and practicality for the driver and passengers. Starting with the new steering wheel with the chromed star in the center, it is more attractive and more comfortable handhold to the vehicle’s driver.
The seat’s new fabric, besides more elegant, guarantees greater comfort for the occupants. The prominence of darker tones in the internal coating and in the new-textured carpet strengthens the feeling of modernity in the interior of the cab. The new type of cloth of the curtains offers greater blockage of external light.
The parking brake lever is now positioned in the very instrument tool, as well as the truck brake in the case of the 1729 tractor. This brings more ease of operation and more internal comfort to the driver.
New panel helps the driver drive more economically
The new panel of instruments of the Atego has a cleaner design and night vision facilitated by the use of amber lights. Extremely practical and functional, it offers better visualization and simplifies the use by the driver. In addition to that, the modern layout highlights the data reading and facilitates information interpretation.
Another very important advantage is that the new panel brings functions that help the driver operate the vehicle in a more economical way. Such is the case of the real-time fuel consumption, for example, expressed in km/l and of the Econometer, a variable green strip in the revolution counter, which indicate to the driver the best working rotation of the engine for the lowest fuel consumption. Both come as standard in the Atego.
More strength and performance for daily transportation
Besides more economical and ecological, the 2012 Atego’s line new engines with BlueTec 5 technology, which meet the PROCONVE P-7, offer greater strength and performance. With greater power, the trucks gain faster accelerations and average speeds. The higher torque, on its turn, favors speeding and velocity resumption, dynamizing the distribution and transportation activities.
Another big advantage of the new engines are the bigger intervals of oil change. In road application, for instance, the Atego will go from 45.000 km to 75.000 km, which reduces operational costs and increases the availability of the truck for work. In other words, more profitability for the client.
The exclusive Top Brake engine brake comes as standard in the Atego trucks, offering more safety, lower fuel consumption and longer durability of the components of the brake system.
Ample flexibility to meet all demands of the clients
The new Atego line is now formed by the average-sized 1419 truck and by semi-heavy 1719, 1726, 1729, 2426 and 2429 trucks (see tables of engines, powers and GTW at the end of the text). According to the model, three versions of axle distance are offered, which means broad flexibility to meet the demands of the transporters.
The client still has four options of cabs available for the Atego: standard, long, low roof sleeper and high roof sleeper cabs. This is an exclusive variety in the market, only available for Mercedes-Benz trucks.
Independently of the type of cab, the Atego trucks allow the use of the biggest bodies of the market, with lengths, for example, from 8.70 meters to 9.20 meters, in the case of the top-selling axle distance of 4.8 m, in the 6x2 versions, depending on the cab used. With that, the new line preserves the excellent cargo capacity of the vehicles, guaranteeing optimum productivity in transportation. Consequently, it increases the customer’s profitability.
Due to their sturdiness, strength and technical characteristics, the Atego trucks are apt to receive any kind of body and implement, such as dry closed-box, isothermal or refrigerated, sider, beverages, gas cylinders, fuel tank, LPG or chemical products, open body in wood or aluminum and several other applications. That includes the possibility of installation of a 4th axle in the 6x2 model, which is made by third parties in the market.
Thanks to its versatility of use, the Atego trucks are indicated to own and independent load transporters. Among those are distributor, wholesalers, cereal sellers, and logistics operators, as well as those who work in the transportation of beverage, home appliances, furniture, produce, refrigerated goods, chemical products, building materials, water distribution and municipalities, among others.
