With the new Accelo 815 “little Mercedes” and with Accelo 1016, Mercedes-Benz launches its line of 2012 light trucks. The bold and modern design of the cab readily stand out, following the identity and style concept created for all new families of trucks. The brand-new front grill and the optic set of the headlights result in a sturdier and more attractive look.
Like the whole line of 2012 Mercedes-Benz trucks, the Accelo models get to the market with more economical and more ecological PROCONVE P-7 engines and with the exclusive and advanced BlueTec 5 technology, which guarantees excellent performance, efficiency and reliability.
“The new Accelo line continues a history of 40 years of success of our brand’s light trucks in Brazil. From the 1972’s pioneer 608 D to the acclaimed 710 of the current line, it is more than 185.000 units sold in the country”, said Joachim Maier, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil’s Sales Vice-President.
According to Maier, in addition to being more modern and economical, the 2012 line light trucks offer much more to the clients. “Accelo also stands out by the load capacity, superior quality, agility, reliability and durability. Such features have gained broad market recognition, with independent users, transportation or own-load companies, distributors and wholesalers”, said the executive.
More load capacity
One of the biggest innovations of the 2012 light truck line is the higher load capacity. With 8.300 kg of GVW the Accelo 815 offers an additional 1.600 kg compared to the 710, Brazil’s most sold model in its category, marking Mercedes-Benz’s debut in the segment of 8 tons of GVW.
On its turn, the Accelo 1016, with 9.600 kg of GVW, allows an additional 600 kg compared to the current Accelo 915 C, the model which will be succeeded by the 1016. Together with the biggest load platform of the segment, which permits using frames up to 6.5 meters long, the result is much more productivity for urban distribution than any other light truck, thus contributing for the client's high profitability.
The Accelo 1016 allows the installation of a third axle, which can be made by implementing companies, expanding its load capacity to 13.000 kg of GVW and allowing for the use of bodies up to 8 meters long.
Durability of the engines in Accelo line
The engines of the new Accelo 815 and 1016 have the major durability of the market and it is a recognized feature of the traditional "Mercedinho." There are about 600.000 km of engine life cycle to serve the carrier.
Both the Accelo 815 and the 1016 are equipped with the 4-cylinder 156-HP OM 924 LA electronic engine, meeting the PROCONVE P-7 legislation. The high torque (Accelo 815’s 580 Nm and Accelo 1016’s 610 Nm) guarantees faster accelerations, better regaining, and higher average speed. With higher power and torque, Mercedes-Benz’s new light trucks offer higher performance and agility in load transportation.
Both new Accelo are factory-equipped with 5 speed gearboxes. The Accelo 1016 may optionally have the brand new 6 speed Mercedes-Benz G-56 gearbox, which stands out due to higher performance and sturdiness, and it is mandatory in the application for 13.000 kg of GVW.
With smooth and precise shifting, the G-56 gearbox contributes for higher comfort while driving, an essential feature in the intense traffic of the cities, and it also has excellent performance in the intercity and road applications.
More options of axle spacing and bigger body for UCV
Mercedes-Benz starts making available more options of axle spacing for the new Accelo trucks: 3.100 mm, 3.700 mm and 4.400 mm. With that, they are fit the different applications and body lengths, such as 4.5 m, 5.5 m and 6.5 m (the biggest one in the market).
The Accelo 815 and the Accelo 1016 can be used as UCV (Urban Cargo Vehicle) in restricted zones, such as in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. For that application, it allows the use of 4.5-meter long bodies, the biggest among the UCVs.
Bigger comfort on board
The interior of the cab of the new Accelo line also stands out for several innovations, such as the new colors for the internal lining, seats and steering wheel, which creates an even more modern look.
The comfortable driver and passenger seats and the excellent internal ergonomics allow comfort and practicality for the occupants. The availability of air conditioning as an optional notably enhances the on-board well being, reducing the stress of the daily activity and contributing for greater productivity in the daily transportation.
More practical and functional, the new instruments panel, with on-board computer and navigation key, brings better visualization and simplifies the operation by the driver. The modern layout highlights data reading and facilitates information interpretation.
Another very important advantage is that the new panel brings functions that help the driver operate the vehicle more economically. Such is the case, for instance, of the vehicle’s real-time fuel consumption, expressed in km/l, which comes as standard.
Besides drum brakes (standard for the 815) and disk brakes (standard for the 1016 and optional for the 815), the new Accelo may have the exclusive Top Brake engine brake (standard for the 1016 and optional for the 815), which offers greater safety, smaller fuel consumption and longer durability of the components of the brake system. The conventional engine brakes comes as standard for the Accelo 815.
Longer times for oil changes
In addition to reduced fuel consumption and lower pollutant emissions, the new Mercedes-Benz engines stand out for longer times for oil changes. IN hard service, for example, it went from 20.000 km to 45.000 km. That reduces operational costs and increases the truck's availability, which means more profitability for the customers.
Mercedes-Benz’s light truck, especially the “Mercedinho”, are recognized by the market due to their sturdiness, reliability, ease of use, quick maintenance and rapidly returning to work. That way, the client obtains more productivity in its transportation activity.
Diversity of applications
The Accelo trucks are ideal for goods distribution and for collection and delivery of load and products in urban and intercity routes. They are also indicated to short road distances and rural areas.
Among several applications, Mercedes-Benz’s light trucks serve food transportation, produce, building materials, furniture, electronics, home appliances, decoration, refrigerated products, beverages, vehicle assistance, gas cylinders and others. For such, they mainly used closed-box bodies, open dry cargo, refrigerated closed-box, vehicle assistance platforms and several other implements.
Extremely comfortable to drive and maneuver, the Accelo trucks are very agile, essential advantage in urban traffic, where they travel easily even in narrow streets and inside neighborhoods. The high torque guarantees quick deliveries, even in areas with steep slopes.
